Finnish Secretary of State in Luxembourg

On the 3rd of March 2022, the Finland Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg had the pleasure of hosting an evening with the Permanent Secretary of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Finland, Mr. Matti Anttonen.

This event brought together members of the Finland Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg, Finnish Embassy representatives, Finnish Foreign Ministry representatives, and the Finnish Chamber of Commerce representatives in Luxembourg.

The objective of the event was to discuss experiences and perspectives on opportunities for business exchanges between Finland and Luxembourg. What could have been a better topic of our first event officially as a Chamber of Commerce!

Discussions were vibrant and flowed rich throughout the evening, many views were exchanged. One of the conclusions was that Luxembourg is yet fairly unknown in Finland; its reputation as a financial hub remains, but other aspects and opportunities are easily overlooked due to the seemingly small size of the country.

However, as Mr. Anttonen rightfully pointed out, Luxembourg should be an interesting cooperation partner for many businesses, as the financial stability and purchasing power in the country is very strong. In 2020, Luxembourg and Ireland recorded the highest level of GDP per capita expressed in PPS in the EU, at 163% and 109% above the EU average. (Eurostat). This, along with the hyper international population, could represent very appealing opportunities for international business growth of Finnish companies.
